Back in Meaford

Well, I'm back in Meaford, after spending nearly 9 months in wildest Borneo. Actually, the part of Borneo I was in, Sabah, is not wild at all; in fact it is a quite civilised place, & very beautiful. That said, Malaysia is still a "developing country", although it has plans to become a first world country by 2020. That, I think, is rather a tall order, given the apparent lack of hygiene in the coffee shops, the feral dogs, the rats in the open storm drains & the unfortunate habit of the locals to throw their garbage out of their car windows all too frequently for western tastes.
Still, despite those observations, I never once got "Delhi belly", & found the people delightful.
There is also progress in the major areas of complaint, as, for example, the roads are posted with signs encouraging folks to be more careful with their plastic bags - to recycle, and all the necessary laws seem to be in place for a modern society. Restaurants are now classified as to hygiene standards, but sadly, it's mostly the KFC & McD outlets that get top ratings! But who would want to eat at those places when the local food is so varied & tasty? You can choose Chinese food or Malay, or Western, & all at excellent prices. But as for 2020, It will take a few years, but Malaysia is trying hard, & I admire the efforts of the governments.
