A visit downtown

A doctor's visit downtown brought an opportunity to pop into the Heartland Park near the Missouri to see the spring blossoms. After the recent rains the river was flowing quite fast, with lots of eddies & currents visible.

But I was again disappointed with the sterility of the park that is on the banks. A concrete & painted steel expanse some 200 yards long, albeit with some attractive tables & umbrellas, the absence of any human figures made it look rather desolate despite the sunny day. Too bad the city hasn't brightened it up with some shrubs or trees.

By contrast the Iowa side of the river - although oddly undeveloped apart from Harrah's casino half a mile south - looks verdant & beckoning.

But there is a pleasant pedestrian bridge over the railway lines into the Heartland park, with lots of flowering cherry trees (they are all over Omaha I notice now) and a good sized lake in the middle. There is a sizeable fountain in the lake too, and a massive waterfall running into the lake. We took some photos there, & some are here.
